In all the "now"s of my life getting older was never fraught with anxiety.  As a matter of fact getting older was desired, hastened in my teens with high heels and lipstick. As a young bride, rushed into the mother role and in my 40s in order to be taken seriously as a professional, hoped for a few gray hairs, because I looked so young. How crazy is that!

Current Writing Workshop

Posted by Josephine On Jun 16, 2009 - 06:19 PM

I have been meeting in workshop with a small group  in  Penny’s dinning room on north Lincoln Ave. since April 13.  Penny and others had participated in a writing workshop I conducted for several years at Swedish Covenant Hospital’s Healthy Aging community outreach. The focus of the workshop was “Remembering the Stories of Your Life”,  a creative non fiction workshop.  We will probably reconvene once again in the Fall to do another 6 sessions.

From time to time I will post some of my musings and reflections on aging.  I hope that you will comment.  Agree or disagree with my sentiments.  I'm interested in starting a dialogue on the subject.  I find that most people especially younger folk really don't want to go near the subject.  To many talking about aging is synonymous with death and dying.  Well we are all dying from the time we are born but dying from the point of view of the death bed occurs in the unknown future. That future could be in the next 10 minutes or in the next 20 years and I'm not interested in the future, I care only about now.

The Abortion Issue

Posted by Josephine On Jun 09, 2009 - 04:24 PM

Last Sunday I wrote a letter to the editor of the Chicago Tribune

The abortion discussion has become boring, sanctimonious, dishonest, violent and worst of all fruitless.  It is sickening and disingenuous to talk about abortion as a moral issue because it is the taking of a life.  That argument would have some credibility if the right-to-lifers considered all killing as immoral.
