Requiem for a Gifted Musician by Jo Stewart

Winter came

in a time out of time

the harvest barely in the barn

leaves not yet rusted

not yet fallen

but there it was

of a sudden

a thin layer of snow

on your doorstep.

I cried

for I planned to dance

on the crest of the hill

gather bounty from the earth

and feast with neighbors.

But the reaper, himself a bitter wind

chilled you to the bone,

the ninth month just gone

and in its place a silence

haunted by music.
